This weekend I rolled my recycling to the curb for the second time in 2020 💪
I was almost able to fit all my recyclable waste for the entire year in two curbside recycling bins, but there are a few items in my kitchen recycling bin that didn’t quite fit 😬
Had it not been for the pandemic, I would have easily gotten my recyclables to fit in two bins, and probably just one. Because of COVID-19, I relied more on canned food to stretch out my grocery store runs. And since I started homeschooling my son, all the paper waste that would have been recycled at school is now being recycled at home 🏠 And because there were a few months when I wasn’t able to refill wine bottles due to store protocols, there are a few store-bought wine bottles in there, too 😜
But I’m proud to say my plastic recycling did not increase. I’ve been able to avoid plastic packaging the same way I was before: by refusing packaging whenever possible and seeking out alternatives to plastic packaging, like paper and glass 👍
My 2020 New Year’s resolution was to reduce my recyclables to 2-3 bins, and I’m happy I succeeded despite the pandemic 😁 Setting that goal last December helped me stay conscious of my recyclable waste all year long.
I haven’t made a New Year’s resolution for 2021 yet, but I’d like to publicly set another waste-reducing goal to hold myself accountable. Any suggestions?! Please share your ideas in the comments below! 😃
