I took my recycling out for the first time this year! My goal for 2020 is to take my recycling out only 2-3 times this year, and so far I’m on track to do it only twice! 💪
Had it not been for the lockdown, I think I could have lasted a couple more months. But thanks to COVID-19, there are lots of food cans and wine bottles in my recycling bin 😜
If you’ve been following me for awhile, you know I try to reduce landfill waste AND recyclable waste. That’s because while materials may be recyclable, it doesn’t mean they’ll actually get recycled 😢
Did you know that around 25% of the material put in curbside recycling bins is rendered unrecyclable by contamination? 😱 For example, leftover residue from food containers and product bottles can make the paper in our bins unrecyclable 😞
If you have to buy packaged products, choose easily recyclable packaging like metal, glass and paper (not plastic). Reuse glass jars and other containers whenever possible. When it’s time to recycle, rinse cans and bottles well so that recyclable material has a better chance of getting recycled 👍
