Tiny Trash Can homemade whipped cream recipe

Homemade whipped cream

I love weekend mornings because my son and I have time to cook together (as compared to our hurried school day mornings). One of our favorite weekend breakfasts: pancakes with homemade whipped cream and chocolate chips. Ok, not exactly the healthiest breakfast, but it’s the weekend 😉

Making our own whipped cream is quick, easy and so much tastier than store-bought whipped cream. Plus, we can avoid the aerosol can with nitrous oxide. Did you know that nitrous oxide is a potent greenhouse gas (300 times worse than carbon dioxide) and an ozone destroyer? Even worse, it stays in the atmosphere for 110 years 🙁

While most nitrous oxide in the atmosphere is from nitrogen-based fertilizers (and not whipped cream), homemade whipped cream makes me feel better about our guilty pleasure 🙂

To make this whipped cream with less waste, we buy La Pinte cream (which comes in a consigned glass container), powdered sugar from Bulk Barn and pure vanilla extract in a glass bottle.

Homemade whipped cream recipe

Ingredients
1 cup heavy whipping cream (35%)
2 tablespoons of powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract

Directions

  1. Put mixer bowl and whisk attachment in refrigerator for a few minutes so they’re chilled.
  2. Mix all three ingredients in a mixer and whip on high until peaks form. Stop mixing once you achieve desired stiffness. Enjoy! 🙂
