We’ve had a few hot and sunny days here in Montreal, so my son and I have started making our zero waste lemonade again 😋 It’s such a great hydrator after being active in the sun ☀️
We turn it into “Gatorade” by adding a bit of salt 😉 Sodium and lemons are natural sources of electrolytes, so this drink is the perfect anecdote to hot days like today. It’s getting up to 88F / 31C today in Montreal! 😅
Our “Gatorade” is less wasteful and healthier than bottled sports drinks or lemonade because there’s no plastic bottle and no artificial flavors or colors 🙌 Plus, lemons are easy to find package-free 👍
Homemade lemonade (or Gatorade) recipe
Ingredients
1 liter (4 cups) water
1 lemon
5–6 tablespoons cane sugar
1/8 teaspoon sea salt (if making a sports drink)
Directions
1. Squeeze the juice of one lemon into a pitcher or glass jar.
2. Add water, sugar and sea salt (if using).
3. Stir until everything is dissolved. Serve over ice and enjoy!
We’re kind of addicted to this stuff 😜 My son told me yesterday that if this heat continues, I’m going to need to get a LOT more lemons! 😂
P.S. Before you compost those lemon peels, put them in some white vinegar and make some all-purpose household cleaner! 😉
