Since adopting a tiny trash can, I always look for ways to reuse things before throwing them away, and food is no exception! I love discovering new ways to squeeze more usefulness out of food before composting it. Some of my favorites include vegetable broth made from veggie scraps, all-purpose cleaner made with lemon peels, body scrub made with coffee grinds and now eye cream made from avocados! 😀
My avocado seemed perfectly ripe, so you can imagine my surprise when I sliced it open 😳
Rather than drop it directly into the compost bin, I looked up ways to salvage it. Turns out I can use it as a cheap and effective under eye cream! Avocado contains carotenoids (an antioxidant), vitamin C and E (wrinkle fighters) and monounsaturated fatty acids (hydrating moisturizer). To use, I mashed the avocado into a paste, gently dabbed a little bit around my eyes, let it sit for 15 minutes, then rinsed it away with lukewarm water. It’s my new post-shower beauty ritual 😁
Avocados can be used to moisturize skin, repair damaged hair and even treat sunburns—though I won’t be needing that anytime soon in Montreal! 😆 Have you tried using avocados in your beauty regimen? What’s your favorite way to use them? Let me know in the comments below!
Can I leave it there without washing it off?!
As it dries, it sort of tightens so you’ll want to rinse it off. But I’ve left it on longer than 10 minutes with no permanent damage 🙂
The avocado pits and skins can be used to make nature dye for fabrics.
Thanks for the tip! 🙂
