You can buy nearly anything without packaging if you just ask, including pet fish! I politely asked the fish store worker if he could put the fish in our jar instead of a plastic bag. He happily complied though it was clear this was a first. I guess he was worried that our jar wouldn’t be watertight because it took me nearly a half hour to open that lid!
